Richland lunch prices rise at least 15 cents for students
Richland School District trustees raised lunch prices as part of a plan to cover a district deficit. Student lunches go to 45 and 55 cents, milk to 15 cents, with adults at 1.00 or more. substitute pay and teacher hires are also adjusted. The district aims to cut projected deficit from 48164 to about 29987.

Body found in pond near Los Angeles and Cherry
John Dwayne Studdard was found stabbed to death in a trailwater pond at about 6 45 am on Friday August 17. The pond lies at the southwest corner of Los Angeles and Cherry. Coroner Gervais ruled the death a homicide. No suspects yet, investigators say the body likely lay in the water overnight.

Reed Publications has doubled its Arvin press capacity to 16 pages per section, up from eight, making it the largest offset press in Southern Central California. The upgrade, amid a truck strike and a week-long installation, will expand coverage and introduce more color while using heavier white book paper due to newsprint shortages. The firm, owned by Donald L. and Frank W. Reed, employs about 20 full-time staff across Lamont Shafter and Arvin and prints multiple local papers and inserts.
