Plans to move Santa Fe Depot under Shafter Historical Society
The Shafter Historical Society Board met August 9 in City Council Chambers to plan saving the Santa Fe Depot. With 50 plus members, charter memberships are offered through September 30 at $10 individuals $15 families and $5 students. Bids to move the depot were discussed with one contractor visiting and estimates of $9,000 to $10,000 for moving. A tentative site is donated. permits fees total $210 with $200 refundable if no damage. The group will seek building code compliance and a solid foundation plan. The Chamber of Commerce and Kern County Museum noted possible uses and grant funding potential from historic status. Continued on Page 3A.
