Opinion piece urging voters to scrutinize character over popularity in California recall. Criticizes fame funded campaigns and media influence, questions moral standards of leaders, and calls readers to demand accountable behavior from potential governors regardless of political outcome.
A Shafter pastor writes that installing a gay man as bishop and church leader is a grave wrong, aligning with past public school Bible removal and Roe v Wade. He states the Bible condemns living in open sin while urging love the sinner.
In reminiscence and reporting, the piece notes how rice and beans provide high protein and fiber, with dairy milk as a staple in lean years. It cites Dr. Lucia Kaiser on Hispanic dietary patterns and diabetes prevention, and describes milk vending machines in New York, Colorado, and California promoted by Senator Schumer, aiming to boost bone health and dairy profits. Local school pilots include Platte Valley High School and other Colorado sites, signaling a wave of dairy access in schools.
Maria Mares-Duffey daughter of Lucia and Pablo Mares of Shafter works as a Prop 10 funded Family Advocate serving children ages 0 to 5. She aims to become a Family Law Attorney and has experience with Clinica Sierra Vista as Program Specialist II and with the Alliance Against Family Violence alongside the Shafter Police Department.
Western observers weigh the California recall of Gov. Gray Davis amid cross country commentary. William Safire Maureen Dowd and John Ellwood critique recall politics while foreign press misreads state dynamics. Community notices discuss soccer signups pool events and SRPD board changes as locals seek volunteers and coaches.
