Kern Board of Trade backs Buena Vista recreation project

Kern County Board of Trade directors reaffirmed support for the 980 acre Buena Vista Aquatic Recreation Area. They cite $7.9 million cost with about $1 million local share and majority financed by state and federal sources. A public hearing is set for August 26 in the supervisors chamber.

Fall Field Day highlights West Side Crops

Fresno County hosts the Fall Field Day at the UC West Side Field Station Lassen and Oakland Avenues near Five Points on September 16. UC Davis scientists and USDA researchers will present crop results from sesame sunflowers cotton grapes and rice with a full day program from 9 30 a m to 4 p m an afternoon field tour and talks on fertilizers irrigation weed control and insecticides led by experts from Davis Shafter Reedley and Five Points.

Kern County Business Outlook Conference Set for Jan 27

The 13th Kern County Business Outlook Conference will probe the county economy for 1971. Plans and the congress date were approved by the Kern County Board of Trade at its monthly session. President Bryan J. Coleman said the event will be held at the Bakersfield Civic Auditorium.

Temperature highs and lows at U S Cotton Station Sh after week

The report records the week’s temperatures at the U S Cotton Research Station in Sh after a period of high 103 degrees and low 59. Daytime highs reached 103 on Tuesday August 11 and 97 on Friday August 14. Overnight low 59 occurred Saturday August 15. Soil temps peaked 84 except 83 on Monday August 10. No rainfall was recorded.

Construction boom in Kern County climbs to seven month gain

July activity pushes county construction to 6.4 million and raises year to date to 37.8 million, led by dwelling work exceeding 20.5 million for January through July. Eight cities report strong year over year gains with Bakersfield and Ridgecrest showing large increases. unincorporated areas total 14.57 million for seven months.

Cars Damaged in Local Non Injury Crashes

Police log reports several minor non injury crashes this past week. Howard Thompson struck a parked car at Central Ave 313 causing minor damage to both vehicles. Lester Grant and Phyllis Nunez collided at Walker and Poso on Aug 11 with minor damage. Edward Dyke struck a parked car at Central Ave 721 on Aug 12 causing slight damage to both vehicles.
