Clarence Neuman prominent Shafter businessman and farmer died late Monday night at UCLA Hospital after treatment. Funeral arrangements by Agee Family Funeral Home. He was born May 8 1916 in Medicine Hat Canada and moved to Shafter in 1922. He helped run Robert Neuman & Sons, a potato company, and held many community roles including past president of the 2030 Club and Rotary Club. Survived by wife Violette and two children Robert Lee and Christine J Neuman Kinkead. mother Magdalena. brothers Harvey Herbert and Marvin.

Grant Cooke son of Mr and Mrs E David Cooke 272 Pine is due back from Paris and other parts of France Wednesday evening at Los Angeles International. He will reach Shafter Thursday and will be met by his aunt and uncle Mr and Mrs Douglas Kinsey of Malibu. Grant visited his uncle and aunt Philippe Ryssen and their 12 year old son Patrick at their summer home in Le Touquet. The Ryssens sent the air trip as a graduation gift after his recent high school graduation.

Four narcotics suspects to face hearing in Bakersfield Court
Four arrested in Shafter Sunday morning charged with possession of marijuana and bennies will appear in Bakersfield Court on Thursday August 19. A fifth person is a juvenile. Names include Alberto Villanueva Raul Villanueva Fernando Dela Cruz and Hang William Christensen. Officers Miller and Williams stopped the car at Pine and Beech after a tail pipe drag and observed packages hidden beneath the vehicle containing marijuana and bennies.

Ruby Marie Paslay 65 of 316 Shafter Ave Shafter died after a lingering illness in Bakersfield a hospital. Services were held Tuesday at the Robert L. Jones Funeral Chapel Wasco officiated by Elders of the Latter Day Saints. She was born September 1 1899 in Kansas and moved to Shafter in 1918. She married Harry Paslay in Bakersfield in 1920 and is survived by her husband a son and three grandchildren. Interment was in Shafter Cemetery.

Trials Set In Shafter Justice Court Friday morning
Two trials are scheduled in Shafter Justice Court at 9 30 a.m. One charges vehicle code violation and the other penal code violation. Other actions include John W Cunningham forfeiting 56 dollars bail for speeding on the 99 Highway. James A Broomfield posted 166 dollars bail for reckless driving. Paul Cruz Lomell pleaded guilty to disturbing the peace and threatening with weapons and was fined 220 dollars or 40 days in jail. Bennie Voth was found not guilty of a vehicle code violation. Carol Hernandez pleaded guilty to disturbing the peace and was sentenced to 60 days in jail with one year suspended.

Clinton Eugene Ford 18 of Lerdo Highway and Ivan Denny 20 of Los Angeles Street were treated at a local doctor’s office after a motorcycle and car crash at the Lerdo Highway and Central Valley Highway intersection.
