The Shafter Public Utilities District discussed mutual waste issues with potato shed operators at a Monday meeting. District engineer A A Dorman could not attend. The board supports installing settling pits by May 1 1966 and may combine pits with waste lines to improve disposal and avoid sending mud to external basins. High School Youth Corps Approved for Shafter District
The Kern County Union High School District received word from the U S Department of Labor that the Neighborhood Youth Corps renewal is approved from August 16, 1965 to December 31, 1965. Ila Mae Smith of 325 Terra Vista was hospitalized at Bakersfield Memorial after a Tuesday morning crash at Shafter and Merced avenues. Police say she fell asleep at the wheel while driving home from the Lighthouse Cafe, suffering a broken arm, chest and shoulder injuries and remaining in critical condition.

Funeral services for Katie Baerg 82 of 30328 Riverside Avenue Shafter were held Tuesday August 24 at 10 am at Seventh Day Adventist Church of Shafter. Elder M E Heinrich officiated with burial in Shafter Memorial Park. A longtime church leader and deaconess she helped donate the land for Kern Academy. Survived by sons Jacob Walter Dave Eld John Henry Dain Katherine and others and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
