Photographer David Bell of David Bell Studio in Shafter earns top honors as his piece Waterfall Abstract is selected for the 1983 General Exhibit and Loan Collection by the Professional Photographers of America. Five percent of about 4500 entries were chosen after juror review for impact color harmony balance composition and quality. The Loan Collection debuts at the 1983 PP of A convention July 16 to 21 at The Dallas Convention Center and travels as a showcase of the year’s best work. Bell earns two merits toward PP of A Master of Photography degree, requiring 25 merits.
The Friends of KVPR-FM present Jazz Valley 83 at the Fresno District Fairgrounds on September 3 and 4. The two day outdoor festival will feature three performances each night with two evenings of jazz by local and international artists. Tickets are 10 dollars for one night, 20 for both if bought in advance, 12 for one night and 24 for both on the event day.
A volleyball meeting and practice plan are set for Monday August 22 at 8:00 a.m. in the Shafter High Gym. Girls must submit medical and insurance forms to Minnie Smith by Friday August 19 to be cleared for the August 22 start. Mrs Jack Frost underwent surgery Monday afternoon at Memorial Hospital in Bakersfield after an accident earlier that morning. A dog attempted to bite her, causing her to stumble, fall, and injure her hip during the incident.
