Tragedy in Shafter: 16 year old dies in motorcycle crash

Jeffrey Lee Weaver aged 16 of 18803 Poplar Avenue Shafter died August 3 from injuries after a motorcycle collision at Beech and Streets. He rode a 1979 motorbike bought days earlier and struck a hay truck driven by Cres Romero of Tulare. Two friends were with him. one escaped, the other stopped at the scene. Eyewitness bills lifted the crash scene as bystanders and reporters assisted before Kern Medical aid arrived.

In-House Assessment Selects Two Shafter Police Sergeants

A seven officer, daylong assessment center led by Shafter Chief Richard Hoffer chose two officers for sergeant promotions. Assessors from Taft, Delano, Bakersfield, and the District Attorney's office evaluated performance, leadership, and decision making, with final recommendations and narratives filed for review.

Local election filing deadline set for August 12

Official filing ends at 5 p.m. Friday August 12 for candidates seeking seats on multiple districts including Richland, Maple, Buttonwillow and Shafter areas. Office Complex Rising at Central and Kern in Shafter

Gene and Kathleen Enns own and invest in a new office complex at the corner of Central Avenue and Kern Street in Shafter. Designed by E L Enns and Fresno architect Russell Taylor, the wood frame building will be brick-veneered with double-pane windows. Construction begins this summer with an anticipated October opening and three tenants already leased, including an insurance office for Mr. Enns.

EIR Notice for Shafter High Joint Use Proposal by Quad Consultants

The Kern High School District filed a notice of preparation for a Draft Environmental Impact Report in the Shafter High School Joint Use Proposal with Shafter Recreation and Park District. The study covers transforming 11.8 acres into a recreation facility with two softball fields two soccer fields and other park improvements. Responses are due by September 10, 1983 to the Kern High School District Business Office Bakersfield. The district was ordered by a Superior Court judge to prepare the EIR before construction proceeds. The Shafter district has authorized up to 15000 dollars for the EIR.

Man Arrested in Apparent Arson at Wasco Apartments

Fire officials say a man tied to a quarrel started the blaze at Pose Manor Apartments 910 16th St Wasco trapping no one inside as occupants escaped safely. The suspect Kenneth 18 of Youn Gaston Wasco was jailed on PCP influence charges after a Fire Dept investigation.
