Formica to open new distribution center in Shafter

Formica Corporation will open a distribution center on Fanucci Way off Seventh Standard Road in Shafter to serve the Western Region. The move shifts shipments from Rocklin to Shafter, with phased shipping starting in November and full operation by February 2007, as part of a up to 25 million NA investment.

Detention officer injured in Kern County crash

A Kern County Sheriff's Department detention deputy Denise Underhill 32 was injured when her private vehicle collided with another on August 8 near 7th Standard Road west of Coffee Road. Both drivers were taken by ambulance to Kern Medical Center with Underhill in stable condition and leg injuries. The other driver's condition was not released.

Arena Day at Shafter Healthy Start Immunizations

ARENA DAY involved checking student vaccination cards and directing those needing vaccines to upstairs classrooms in the Activity Center. Parents were informed of recommended but not required vaccines for school. Evonne Martinez promoted healthy eating with the Let's Get Healthy program and sugar and fat visuals. If absent, homerooms were posted by 4 p.m. Aug 18 and schedules were in homerooms on the first day.
