Kern High School District Sees 15% Budget Cut For 1978-79
The Kern High School District announces a 15 percent budget reduction for 1978-79 due to Prop 13. Six fewer administrators, 35 fewer teachers, and 80 fewer classified staff are planned, with larger classes and fewer books. Desegregation planning and updated graduation requirements are also on the agenda. Girls gain more athletic opportunities with one extra basketball team, while one baseball slot is cut to meet Title IX goals. Twelve Shafter swimmers qualified for the October 19 SMASF meet in Long Beach.
