Two Shafter Homes Burn in July and August Fire Losses
Fires destroyed two nearby homes near Shafter causing about 70000 in damage. The first home owned by C J Vignolo reported July 31 near Riverside Central Valley with 40000 loss and 50 year old Pete Maldanado burned on arm from a water heater blaze. A second residence owned by Charles Williams Bakersfield reported August 2 with 35000 loss and possible cigarette ignition. Fire crews from Shafter Minter Field Wasco arrived and ammonia leak at Oxy Chem caused no injuries. A separate vehicle fire on August 3 damaged Filipe s 1971 Ford Station Wagon by an electrical short.

Shafter Delano College Expands Fall Classes
Delano College sub-division Bakersfield College will offer 22 classes in Shafter for the Fall 1979 semester, with 12 in Wasco. No entrance tests, age 18+ required, and most courses lead to an associate of arts degree or transfer to four year schools. Registration starts the week of September 4.
