A crop dusting helicopter owned by Inland Crop Dusting crashed Friday near Zachary Farms at Eros Lane and Burbank in Shafter. Pilot Gerald Lewis of Bakersfield walked away unharmed after the craft lost a tail rotor shaft, causing a spin just above the cotton. Ground spraying solution spilled but was neutralized and limited in pesticide content. Kern County Health officials and local officials coordinated safety measures and emergency response.
Sheriff Larry Kleier announces major department relocation to 1350 Norris Road with the Detective Division moving on July 25, 1986. By late July to early August 1986, several divisions shift to the new site, housing about 300 employees initially, while some units stay at downtown locations until 1988.
