Collision injures two in Shafter dirt road mishap
Two Shafter residents were injured when their vehicle lanced out of control after a tire blew. Mrs. B. F. Nikkel suffered a deep gash below the knee and young Jean Lorretta Hunter, also known as Mrs. Apa Agra Welle, sustained a bruised lip and nose. The driver, Mrs. Nikkel’s daughter, escaped injury.

Thompson Grapes Harvest Near Shafter District
In the Shafter district growers report a good Thompson Seedless crop with 60 tons shipped by both A. R. Neufeld and Sam Shultz. Grapes are sent in open cars to canneries, with eight tons per acre and about one and a half tons left for raisins. Other varieties include Carigan Alicante and Red Emperor. Eckmann Brothers and others are noted growers.

Closing Exercises of Bible School Friday Night

First Mennonite Church Erecting Modern Edifice
Construction of a new First Mennonite church in the Wall tract progresses with bricklaying and concrete work in a 36 by 60 foot basement. The reinforced concrete and brick building will feature red tile roofing and a basement for Sunday school and social events. The church reorganized in 1985 with 23 charter members and now sees growing attendance. Pastor Gustav Frey recently arrived from Hillsboro and has energized the congregation with clear emphasis on duty and stewardship.

Counterfeit Coin Ring Busted Near Shafter
Constable John C. Reily seized two molds used to make counterfeit 50 cent pieces in a garage at North Shafter. He and two men suspected of passing more than 200 dollars in bogus half dollars are being sought for questioning. The suspects rented the garage for ten days and posed as oil field workers. They drove an old Buick and may be traveling with harvest crowds through the valley. Merchants were warned to watch for spurious coins.
