Penalty Rate for Excess Cotton Set
The marketing quota rates for 1957 crop excess cotton set 18.5 cents per pound for upland cotton. The penalty rate equals 50 percent of the parity price per pound as of June 15 the year produced. Local Swimmers Set County Records at Kern Meet
Shafter swimmers set three county marks at the Kern County recreation meet in Rio Bravo. Two Shafter Men Are Sentenced for Hanford Breakin
Luallen Clement age 46 of Shafter received commitment to the California Department of Corrections Medical Facility at Vacaville for burglary in Hanford. His nephew Freddie J T Edwards age 24 of Shafter was sent to San Quentin Prison. Both pleaded guilty to burglarizing a Hanford grocery on June 18. Each man has prior long criminal records including terms served in Oklahoma State Prison at McAlester.

Final Rites for Victim of Fatal Shooting Accident
Funeral services for Johnny Wayne Williams 17 were held at the Central Missionary Baptist Church Wasco with Rev Billie Williams presiding. He was accidentally shot by a .22 automatic on July 28 while riding in a pickup. He worked at the Jack Battaglia ranch Buttonwillow where the accident occurred. Funeral services for James C. Lewis age 36 of 18685 Searons avenue are pending at the Robert L. Jones Funeral Home Wasco. He was accidentally wounded by a .82 revolver at home on Sunday July 28 and died at a Wasco hospital the same day.
