Early deer tags arrive as season opens in California
By 3 PM on opening day August 1 three deer tags had reached the California State Division of Fish and Game offices. Two deer were reported bagged by 5:30 AM in San Mateo and by A E Motta, while a third was taken at 6:10 AM by K D Klauman in San Benito. Airfield Occupation Nears as Barracks Open at Shafter Field
A group of air corps men is expected to move into the United States army airfield east of Shafter with more units to follow as buildings near completion. 4 000 to 5 000 men are anticipated soon, with talk of 10 000 or more if the pilot training program expands. Barracks begun under the original contract are finished and will be occupied. additional buildings remain under construction and will be used as completed.
