Homecoming for Vietnam veteran Donald Jones Jr.
A Shafter soldier and helicopter crew chief with two Purple Hearts, an Air Medal and a Silver Star arrives Thursday on a 30 day fur lough. Don Jones Jr. is the son of Donald and Mrs. Jones of Riverside and previously earned an Air Medal with a V device during a July 3 Vietnam helicopter mission. He completed his Vietnam tour but volunteered for another six months. He is a Shafter High School graduate who attended Bakersfield College.

The Shafter city council bi weekly meeting approved zoning enforcement and a cleaner community ordinance with first reading. Architect Larry Alexander outlined revised police building drawings ready for main drawings and bid letting by July or August with 3700 square feet on the main level and basement space, to be built two blocks north near Central Valley Highway and Sunset Avenue.

Adventist Medical Team from Bakersfield Aids Hebrides Mission
A Bakersfield physician Dr Marion Barnard and his daughter Dr Jo Ellen Barnard joined an Adventist medical team to the New Hebrides Mission performing 30 major operations including 12 thyroid cases. The group, led by Dr Barnard, treated many patients at Acre Hospital and left equipment behind. Dr Jo Ellen Barnard will report on the mission Friday at 8 p.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
