Cinco de Mayo Festival marks Shafter city parade and events
The Shafter Cinco de Mayo Festival kicks off with a 10 a.m. parade in downtown Shafter and Manuel Park, followed by teen and family activities, a petting zoo, and the Showcase of Dancers headlined by the Mariachi San Marcos at 11 30 a.m. A Mixteca dance group from Oaxaca performs, with two DJs and the Kapaz band playing later. Food booths offer steak burritos, tamales, tri tip, and more. Sponsorships and booth space remain open with contact details.

Don Reed announced on Friday April 14 2000 that Margaret Baker has been named editor of the Shafter Press. Baker joined as a part time typesetter in May 1997, became a full time reporter and columnist in December 1997, and says she will need community help as she assumes reporter photographer and editor duties.
