The Wasco and Shafter Relay for Life chapters held a survivors dinner April 12 at Westside Family Fellowship Church led by Rhonda Jones. More than 100 attended to honor survivors and supporters, with a future April 28 candlelight ceremony and slide show noted.

The Kern County Wrestling Association stage the Coyote Classic in Shafter drawing over 400 wrestlers from across California. Shafter Spartans Wrestling Club entered 32 members with nine medals won as volunteers and community support boosted the big statewide freestyle meet at Shafter High School.

Richland School Receives Chevron Donation for STEM Program
At a Richland School Board meeting Chevron gave 30000 dollars to Richland Jr High for a Project Lead the Way gateway. Adam Alvidrez described the hands on two week teacher training and equipment purchases advancing math and science discovery for students. The grant supports pathways to engineering at Shafter High School and expands STEM across Kern County.
