Vivian Neuman New Proxy For Jr Women's Club
Mrs. Vivian Neuman was elected to head the new slate for the Shafter Junior Women's Club meeting at the Herbert Neuman branch home. The slate includes Maxine Mettler as vice president Pat Neuman as corresponding secretary Helen Neessen as recording secretary Lois Curtis as treasurer and Dorothy Neuman as auditor to be installed April 27 at West's in Wasco by installing officer Mrs. Ed Brown. An auditor post was created to complete the slate with a by law amendment. A $100 donation to ward morning milk for needy children was acknowledged in a letter from Beulah Bartlett director of curriculum at Richland School.

Annual Civic Flower Show Set For Next Tuesday

Unruh Recovering From Blast Burns
Earl Unruh of Shafter, superintendent of the Shafter Public Utility District, is recovering from burns after a butane blast that killed Ivan Stone. The accident at the district sewage plant occurred March 26 during a gas line installation. Unruh has burns about 35 percent of his body with facial injuries healing. two to three weeks more hospital care expected. He remains at Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield.

Ernest Hofman Sr a 65 year old Shafter farmer sustained a compound skull fracture and facial lacerations in a head-on crash on Central Valley Highway near Enos Lane at 4 05 am. The other driver was Albert Boyd Kruger 45 of Shafter. Hofman is hospitalized in Bakersfield in fair condition with uncertain recovery.

Final Services Held For Claude Newsom
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Orthodox Missionary Baptist Church for Claude W. Newsom founder of Newsom Furniture Store on Shafter Avenue. He died of a heart attack Monday. Survived by wife Gladys, brother Oscar Newsom, sister Ruby Jervis, and two daughters Coleta Allison and Retha Wayne Dickie. Arrangements by Shafter Funeral Home. body to be buried in Hico Texas. Newsom, born November 28, 1890 in Hamilton County, had lived in Shafter 12 years.
