Claude W Newsom well known Shafter furniture dealer died of a heart attack yesterday morning at his home on Shafter Avenue near 5 Points. Fire resuscitation efforts failed and he was pronounced dead by a local doctor. Funeral arrangements are pending pending the arrival of his brother from Stockton. He left a wife two daughters and a brother in Stockton.

Funeral services for William S. Newell
William S. Newell, 60, died Sunday afternoon in his cabin north of Shafter. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon. The body was found by his nephew Tex Newell, who called deputy coroner Rem Bristow. Bristow ruled a natural death from several hours earlier. an autopsy followed. Newell had lived in the area for 28 years.

The Coberly West Riding Group will join the Potato Festival Parade on May 21 with a mounted Palomino group and six matched Clydesdales. The Palomino group, a Cimmaron strain, includes seven horses bought by H D West for 17000, with Cimmaron Hanover sold for 6000. A 33 year old Mexican national named Joe Torres was arrested for drunkenness and destined for deportation to Sonora Mexico. Lawrence A.
