California agriculture eyes major GATT trade boost
Bruce J. Obbink of the California Table Grape Commission told the Visalia Agricultural Issues and Outlook Symposium that a successful conclusion to current GATT ground negotiations will lift California fruit and vegetable exports. He noted high tariffs and non tariff barriers in Pacific Basin markets, cited Indonesia’s 100 percent duty on table grapes, and said duty cuts could spur about 1.1 million in yearly grape shipments and broader gains for the state’s crops.
