Inter-club Council of Shafter High invites all entrants for a Gong Show style competition with $25.63 first, $11.31 second, and $6.49 third prizes judged by three celebrity figures. Auditions April 16 at 7 pm, show April 18 at 7:30 pm in the high school auditorium. entry 25 cents with blank due by 3 pm April 16.
The California Crime Watch plan sponsors a conference to reduce local crime in Kern County. Open to all organizations with sessions on home security, consumer fraud, and personal violence. Keynote by George Nicholson. Reservations urged. $5 fee includes lunch.
Ensenada Lions welcomed 250 visiting Lions from Fresno Tulare Kings and Kern Counties for a four day tour. Activities included hospital ward visits a cataract surgery viewing a nursing school visit and social events a fashion show a grand ball and a seafood luncheon. A $2000 check aided a nursing school wing while fishing trips yielded good luck and perfect weather was noted.
Catherine White, former Shafter Woman's Club president and current Kern District first vice president, seeks district president at a weekend gathering hosted by the Shafter club. The event includes a business meeting, luncheon, and a formal installation banquet with past district president A V Sprayberry as installing officer.
The Northern Christian School presents its second musical Hey God Listen to be performed Friday April 11 1980 at 7 30 p m Wasco Mennonite Brethren Church 2225 7th Street Wasco. All 62 students participate with many speaking roles six solo parts and a piano accompaniment by Mrs Paul Neufeld A slide show will accompany the performance Principal Jo Bartel script supervisor and Priscilla Neufeld music teacher coordinate the show with students pursuing English literature math social studies and science Spelling is taught separately A barbecue fundraiser is planned for April 26 to raise money for NECS activities
A large gathering from Shafter Wasco and distant communities celebrated Bos and Carol Snively’s 36th wedding anniversary. Friends and family traveled from Sonora San Clemente Del Mar Oakhurst Bakersfield Las Vegas Poplar Ninnekah and beyond. Mrs Lucy Jones marked her 98th birthday with a multigenerational dinner at Stringham Park.
