Old justice court plan gains Kern County backing
Supervisor Gene Tackett and Dave Head secured support from the Board of Supervisors to reestablish two justice court districts in western Kern County. The plan splits Delano McFarland Shafter Wasco in one district and Buttonwillow Taft Lamont Arvin Frazier Park Maricopa in the other. Courts would use existing facilities with elected judges, reducing municipal court understaffing and cost, with projected annual savings of about 48 000. Local officials from affected cities voiced strong backing.

Fire at DeBest Plumbing, 1807 Central Valley Highway, injures storage bins and shelves valued at 5 000. Fire loss also includes pipe fittings worth 5 000 and damages to a house and a camper truck.
