Accountant Henry Wong Dies After 8th Floor Fall at Padre Hotel
Henry Y B Wong 46 an accountant with Speer Chavez Ruggenberg Wright fell from an 8th floor Padre Hotel window in Bakersfield while living in Shafter. He died at Kern General Hospital after being found missing by his wife Teresa and police. Funeral services set, rosary Wednesday and mass Thursday at St Therese. Survived by wife Teresa two sons Patrick Wayne a brother Fong Wong of Jersey City and a sister in Singapore. A Canton native born August 11 1922 he came to the U S in 1956 and became a U S citizen. He was Kiwanis treasurer and PTA auditor.

A program of awareness and education on drug abuse is planned by the Shafter Drug Abuse Council led by President Phil Zachary. Youth Drowns as Tractor Falls into Canal Near Taft
Juan Gonzalez, 16, of Old River died when the tractor he piloted toppled into the Alejando Canal five miles south of Taft Highway. He was trapped beneath the machinery as it sank into the canal near Buena Vista Ranch. An inquest and autopsy were ordered to determine cause of death.

Teddy Olsen Dies in Buttonwillow Car Crash
Teddy Olsen, 18, of Buttonwillow died in a Sunday night automobile accident. Police report he was speeding south on Wasco Way when he lost control, his car broadsided, overturned, and landed upside down in the Arizona Canal. Buttonwillow firefighters assisted.

Two Teens Injured When Train Hits Car At Lerdo
Two Shafter youths, Colleen Diltz and Linda Hensley, were injured when a Santa Fe freight train traveling about 60 mph struck their car on Lerdo Highway crossing Saturday around 5 p.m. Diltz suffered serious injuries. Hensley’s were less severe. Diltz faces postponed marriage to Tommy Wehunt. she is Bob Diltz’s daughter, Shafter-Wasco Irrigation District manager. The train damaged fuel tank and delayed traffic about 30 minutes.

Frank Thodore San chez of Wasco pleaded guilty to driving a car under the influence of liquor or drugs and received 50 days in the Kern County Jail. He also pleaded guilty to malicious mischief for damaging a tractor and cotton planter on the Camp and Lachenmaier ranch, with an additional 90 days in county jail, totaling 140 days.
