Ass't Chief Witcher Urges Students To Drive Safely
Shafter High School students who drive cars were urged to cooperate with the city safety program in a special meeting held at the high school Tuesday afternoon. Hanley Witcher, assistant chief of police, spoke to thirty eight youths about driver responsibilities and penalties for safety violations. All but four had their drivers licenses. Two boys were driving on a special permit.

Wade Hamilton and Herbert Neuman are among veterans in the Wasco Shafter district taking advantage of flight training offered ex servicemen under the G I Bill of Rights program. The present class of prospective pilots are taking actual flying training at the Wasco airport with classwork in Bakersfield evening classes. 48 Minter Units Awarded To Legion Housing Group
The Bakersfield American Legion veterans housing group received 48 Minter Field buildings for conversion to housing. War Assets Administration in Washington announced the award after a Bakersfield conference where Rep. Alfred J. Elliott said 57 units would be provided, with county cooperation returning 10 buildings to the F.P.H.A. for dispersal.

Shafter Boy Four Hurt In Auto Crash
Barney Casner four son of Mr and Mrs Barney Madison Casner of the Government Agricultural Camp was seriously injured in a side swipe on Highway 99 and Lerdo Road last Wednesday night. Nelly Earls and Lillian Robinson were driving the other cars and escaped injury. Barney's sisters Virginia six months and Joyce eighteen months were unharmed.
