Mr and Mrs J C Atkinson of 300 North Reiker Street hosted a Backwards Party for the Berean Sunday school class of First Baptist Church on Friday evening March 22. Bob Wiebe and Bob Smith sang a trio. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Norman Olsen and Mr and Mrs Clarence Kastner.
Mrs. Jack Brown and daughters Janet and Suzanne stay with Jack Brown’s parents Mr. and Mrs. Ed Brown in Shafter while Jack attends Naval Justice School at Camp Pendleton. He will finish April 19 and then the family will travel to Log Altos.
The Shafter Woman's Club sponsors a card party at 405 Oak Street from 1 PM featuring bridge and canasta plus Philippine dance a presentation by local high school students. Proceeds aid the American Field Service to bring a foreign student to Shafter next fall. Tickets cost $1 from Mrs John Peters. Prizes for high scores and refreshments will be served. Bruce Branner has been accepted at The Western Conservative Baptist Theological Seminary in Portland Oregon for the class of 1963. He will pursue a Bachelor of Divinity degree after graduating from Biola College in June with a B A in Christian Education.
Loft Tracy Lynn Epp born March 29 to Bruce and Mrs. Epp. Ronda Vee Nunlist born March 1 to Ronald and Mrs. Nunlist on their fourth anniversary. Darla Elizabeth Bingham of Wasco welcomed home with siblings Kathy and Nathan. Scott Kelly Canfield born at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital to Chester and Mrs. Canfield. Grandparents named for each arrival include Steele, Epp, Prost, Nunlist, Co Holton, Bingham, Canfield, Willard.
Kim Trout marked her seventh birthday with a March 30 party hosted by her mother Mrs Art Trout. The cake was birth shaped and pink decorated, with candy horns and refreshments linked to Fresno Zoo parades. Guests included Tonie Jane Lynn Morgan Vickie Susie Kim Hamilton and others. assistance came from several relatives including Mrs Woody Jones and Mrs A J Trout.
Kiwanis International won the top Freedom Foundation Award in the Americana General Division at Valley Forge Pennsylvania. The Kiwanis Club of Shafter, led by Sam Becker, received credit for grass roots programs including the Citizenship Quotient and for supporting Key Club International with its Combat Complacency and Freedom’s Challenge initiatives.
A car reported stolen by Isabella K. Johnson of 297 Lerdo, Shafter, was found April 2 parked behind the Ranch Market on Central Valley Highway with its lights on and front end damaged. Johnson had earlier reported the theft while visiting Wasco.
