Drowned Youth Henry Richart Recovered After River Search
Henry C Richart twenty son of Mr and Mrs Pete Richart of South Walnut Street drowned in White River about three hundred feet above the New Ford Bridge. After hours of earnest search by volunteers with Coast Guard help from Louisville his body was found late afternoon by uncle J W Richart near the west bank. Coast Guard experts from Louisville aided the local party as Mayor C W Burkart sought help. The swimmers near the sandbar noted his distress as the current carried him downstream and he disappeared beneath the water.

Veterans of Foreign Wars and auxiliaries from the Fourth District met in Seymour with Leslie Arbuckle Zimmerman Post 1925 and its auxiliary as hosts. Attendees represented Columbus Seymour Bloomington Scottsburg North Vernon and Indianapolis. District commander Arthur Morgan opened the session with department adjutant Fred K. Miles speaking on the work, plus remarks on the Eaton Rapia Home for Orphans and the district’s activities. The group elected to buy a gift for department president Prestie Huntington and endorsed Mrs Edith Herron for an encampment office. Funeral services for Albert Boyd seventeen a Columbus High School student and son of Mr and Mrs Jeff Boyd were held at 3 pm Sunday from the family home with Rev Otto P Hughes in charge. Burial followed in Section cemetery southeast of Columbus. Boyd known as Pug had Brights disease two weeks prior and starred in three major sports during his high school years including the Columbus basketball varsity. He nearly single handedly defeated Shelbyville in the sectional tournament last March.

Farmers Work Sunday to Catch Up on Corn Planting
County farmers spent Sunday in the fields to compensate for delayed corn planting caused by heavy April and May rains. Planting occurred about three weeks late with hundreds of acres sown last week and some farmers aiming to plant as late as June 25. Late planting lowers chances of maturity unless frost is unusually late. Teams plowing under summer heat showed signs of strain, with several teams overcome Saturday.

Shooting at spring injures neighbor. man arrested
Lawrence Wilson of Scott county was arrested on a 1000 bond after he shot Clifford Richey Jr. while the latter knelt to drink from a spring. Richey was wounded in the arms and body when a shotgun fired from bushes near him. The assailant fled.
