Seward growth tout by Seattle banker in early tale
Hale, president of the Bank of Seward, speaks in Seattle about Seward’s rapid growth. He notes a new 60 foot two story concrete block bank building and other business blocks, rail progress toward mile 75 on the Alaska Central Railway, rich mineral findings in Matanuska and Susitna valleys, and the Susitna valley’s potential for 1,000,000 agricultural residents. He predicts Seward will handle jobbing and finance for three quarters of the territory once the railroad reaches the Tanana river, urging Seattle firms to establish branches. A British committee estimates 80,000 tramps in seasons of low mood in England.
