Seward Fourth of July Celebrates Alaska Holiday Move
Seward held an indoor Fourth of July program at Moore's hall with a brief yet lively program and a dance into the night. Cecil H. Clegg urged Alaska municipal incorporation to boost the school fund and advocated annual observance of Alaska’s transfer from Russia on October 18 1867. A resolution proposing October 18th be a legal holiday of Alaska was approved unanimously. Weather kept crowds modest but patriotism remained high as residents joined excursions to lakes and celebrated the nation.

Longshoremen Forbid Work on Ships Employing Orientals
The Puget Sound longshoremen union passed a resolution banning members from loading or unloading ships that use Japanese or Chinese sailors in place of union workers. The move targets the Pacific Coast Steamship Company, with Indians not affected. The action could influence a sailors strike by complicating cargo handling for the company. The report notes rain halted a forest fire near Johnson Creek, and other notices cover estate administration and land entry filings.
