Famine and turmoil across continents dominate telegraph
Cable dispatches report famine worsening in Japan as rice crops fail and relief efforts struggle amid vast affected areas. New York donors send 12000 to Miyagi and Fukushima for the famine districts. Concurrently in Russia the cabinet collapses with resignations and unrest across ministries. In Nebraska an acquittal for Pat Crowe on a 1900 kidnapping charge prompts a brief re-arrest for related ruse. The U S House votes to ban gambling nationwide, vetted for Senate passage. Gold-bearing veins in rhyolite remain rare, with notable examples at Goldfield Nevada. The telephone system now serves around 300 subscribers.
Cement as Building Material On Seward Trial Run
Seward prepares a major test of cement as fireproof exterior wall material for large buildings. The Seward Building and Development Company plans to manufacture cement blocks, tar and gravel roofing, and steel roofing while expanding a two story office on Fifth Avenue. The note references local firms Kenai peninsula and Miracle Project Stone Company, with the cement praised for fireproofing and damp proofing despite higher cost.
