Cale and Waskey Elected Delegates in First Territory Vote

The miners associations of Tanana and Nome elected Thomas Cale of Fairbanks for the long term and Frank Waskey of Nome for the short term as delegates to Congress. Returns show large majorities with Nome and Tanana districts leading. Murane of the Republicans close in Nome city, while Swineford and Mellen Democrats fared poorly in the north.

Explosive cargo arrives on schooner Alice in port

Schooner Alice came in yesterday with 1100 cases of dynamite and 150 cases of gasoline. Departed Seattle July 22 bound for Alaska. Dynamite mostly for Alaska Central. gasoline for Kenai Lumber & Fuel. Owned by Rudd & Christian of Seattle. chartered to go to Kuskokwim from Seward with three mining men led by G H Ritenour aboard.

Eleven ounces of coarse gold and several small nuggets were sent to town by Cooper Creek Mining and Milling Company. Manager Fred Bryant reports the new bench strike is being worked by pick and shovel.
