A sweeping dispatch from Copenhagen reports Finland in open revolt against the Russian government with women taking a leading role. Government threats of slaughter, mutinies, general strikes, and military deployments across St. Petersburg, Cronstadt, and other cities set a grim scene of civil upheaval and revolutionary momentum.
The Alaska Central Railway delegates construction to Welch & Co. Engineer J B Cameron will oversee engineering and track operations at Seward. O G Laberee will supervise overall work. Martin Welch says the firm will push with available men to mile 55 toward Turnagain Arm and expand tunneling as needed.
A report details rail construction progress from Seward toward Nome with completion targets for mile 48 by mid August and tunnel completion by September 1. It notes ongoing trestle and bridge work, summer weather effects, and plans to push tracklaying through miles 50 to 54, with earlier deadlines for high trestles and tunnels.

A gold strike is reported by American prospectors on the Tchakotsk peninsula in Siberia, a land lying opposite the Sew ard peninsula.
