A Thursday night stabbing at Ackley left John Abbas severely cut after Rand mistook him for George Abbas over a prior horse deal. Rand was arrested by Sheriff Walsh, held on a $500 appearance bond, and jailed in Eldora after a hearing before Justice Whited. The weapon was recovered where Rand hid it.

Death of Robert Ruxton in Iowa Community
Robert Steele Ruxton born in Ardeath Scotland June 15 1848 died at home east of town September 24 1909 after a weeklong pneumonia illness. He came to Iowa in 1866 with his father William Ruxton and settled east of Kidora. survived by widow Mary Ann Young and three sons and six brothers attended his funeral led by Rev. W.E. Stanley. Interment in Eldora cemetery.
