Death by self murder of William George near Iowa Falls
William George of Georgetown near Town Falls, Civil War veteran and pioneer, died by hanging Wednesday after learning relatives planned to admit him to the Soldier's Home at Marshalltown. He served two years in Company F, First Iowa Cavalry, wounded at Cape Girardeau, Missouri, then farmed until retirement for health. He leaves a wife and several grown children.

In Nevada district court Judge C E Albrook scored the jury after a verdict of simple assault and battery in a case charging assault with attempt to murder. The defendant, alleged to have beaten an old man, faced a maximum sentence of thirty days. the judge warned that the prisoner must not assume future leniency and even suggested the jurors might be humorlessly thanked if he harmed them after release. Rev Anderson of Mount Vernon, a former India missionary, spoke at the M E church. Hubbard and New Providence schools won 29 to 18. Dr Livengood had a runaway en route to Lincoln. no serious injuries.

The English Bell Ringers Open Eldora Lecture Series
The 1909 10 Eldora Lecture season began Wednesday September 29 with The Royal English Bell Ringers at Wisner Opera House. Bell performances numbered nearly 200 with an overture and glee Bucelsior. Supervisors from Hardin Franklin Hamilton and Wright convened in Iowa Falls to approve survey data and damages for a proposed cross-county drain.
