A Good Man Gone Obituary of Zachariah Blackburn
Zachariah Blackburn born October 21 1814 near Zanesville Ohio died October 12 1904 at Shellsburg Iowa aged 89 years 11 months 22 days. He married Margaret Jordan May 15 1835 and had nine children four sons and five daughters. His wife three sons and one daughter preceded him in death. He moved to Benton county in 1855 near Shellsburg then moved to town 36 years ago and lived in his final home 35 years. He joined the Methodist Episcopal church early and served as Bible teacher and officer, dying with faith and praise. He lived nine months as a stone cutter and nine as a shoemaker at the state institution. The board enforces strict discipline and meal times. Hampton Pastor Resigns From Congregational Church
