The Herald prints a brisk miscellany of notes from Eldora Hubbard Ackley and surrounding areas. It reports paroled county inmates, local weddings and accidents, new businesses, building activity, market events, and upcoming school and cemetery society plans. Community items include a town well contract, a cement sidewalk spread, a night burglar, a ladder fall, a timber barn rebuild, diphtheria cases, and a weekly paper offer.
Rev P C Nelson evangelist will hold revival meetings at First Baptist Eldora starting Saturday Oct 30 announced from the pulpit last Sunday morning. Arrangements were made early in the season with Nelson and the only time at his disposal secured. The Baptist people have prepared with hearty cooperation of all interested in the city's spiritual welfare.
Comings and goings report a half week of social and business visits in Stratford. Notables include Fred Trainer in town for a Masonic degree, Theo Roosevelt visiting from Ackley, and Rev C E Tower en route from Des Moines resigning Hampton pastorate. Attendees at the Mason City grand lodge and other travelers are noted, with brief family updates and returning residents.
The Herald offers $1.00 cash and a one year Semi-Weekly Herald subscription for the largest ear of sound corn grown on a Hardin county farm. Entries due by December 1, 1904, must be properly labeled with grower name and measurements. Judges will be named by The Herald. results announced after December 1. Second prize is 50 cents plus six months subscription.
The Citizens Bank of Eldora Iowa is noted for time deposits farm loans and abstracts of title with J Hardin serving as president. Other readable names include Elizabeth Watt Alden H M Livingston and Marie Reece in New Providence and Eldora contexts.
Hardin district court will convene next Monday with Hon. J. H. Richard presiding. The docket is large but smaller than last term. Grand and trial jurors summoned for Tuesday, Oct. 25, with special assignments starting Monday, Oct. 24. Numerous named cases and dozens of state, probate, and will matters listed. foreign attorneys noted from several firms across Clarion Webster City Waterloo and other towns.
Mr John W Young of Lincoln Illinois relates a quarrel over medicine for a severe cold. He used Harts Honey and Horehound and felt better quickly, while his wife, who chose another remedy, still suffers a bad cough. He advises her to take Harts Honey and Horehound if she hopes to improve this winter. Sold by Wilson Drug Co Eldora Iowa.
In Eldora revival services led by Rev. Su begin Sunday evening with strong messages aimed at revival and good works. At Point Pleasant, morning and evening sermons proceed as usual with Geo. B. Shoemaker preaching. a children’s sermon is planned. Semi centennial committee begins work. Epworth League plans a Mission Study class. Congregational services feature Rev. C. Warner and missionary Rev. Bates with news from Mt. Selinda Central Africa. National Council events drew large crowds at Plymouth church, with next council in Philadelphia 1907.
