Memorial Services Near Town Church and Opera House

A twelve year old boy opened an open switch at the Great Western yards last Monday, sending a freight car off the track as the train returned. The brakeman on top was knocked off but escaped with minor injuries. the derailed car was rerouted without further harm. The incident underscores the danger of reckless pranks near moving cars.

For the week ending May 23 1904 the first half was cool and cloudy with light rain. The last half was clear and warm, bringing temperatures near normal. Corn planting is largely completed in most counties though southern districts show wet soils delaying field work. Acreage is unusually large with some replanting due to defective seed or deep planting. Cultivation of early fields proceeds. Small grain and grass are fair. more showers would help. Potatoes planted in large amounts and fruit prospects are encouraging.
