The Eldora public schools held an impressive exhibit in the Central building on Friday afternoon. Students showcased drawing, color work, and written study in geography and arithmetic under Prof Meyer. A standout was Miss Scurry's first primary room home scene crafted by Chas Polly and children, with furniture and decorations made by the pupils. The event highlighted skilled teaching, with praise for the corps of teachers and the progress of young learners. The exhibit was a timely success, drawing praise from press and public and urging continued parental inspection of school work.
The Herald reports Co. M. Haas has traded his Minnesota farm for merchandise in Williams, and he and Mrs. Haas are newly invoicing the stock. Prohibitionists of Hardin county meet in a mass convention at the court house in Bidora on Saturday May 21 1904 at 1 oclock to nominate delegates to the state convention at Boone May 25 and to handle other business as needed J G Hooxerr is chairman.
Madame Tsilka spoke at Congregational church in Eldora after her return from captivity with Miss Stone. Her story covers six months in Turkish brigand hands, birth of her daughter during captivity, and miraculous deliverance aided by American prayers. The couple, natives of Masadonia and Albania, seek to fund a school and Christian work for 2,000,000 souls in Albania. A collection accompanied the talk.
The Wisner Wisner opera house hosted a Friday evening benefit for Mrs. Wisier Ells worth. Gross receipts reached about 85 dollars with net profit near 75 after expenses, aiding the elderly recipient cared for at public expense, led by Mrs. F W Crockett and Mrs. Jennie Allen among others.
Fannon's advertises silk wraps for women with pricing from 85.00 to 110.00 and up to 10.10. The copy claims they fit the smallest to the largest lady and invites customers to try them for good value.
The Clay township Sunday School convention is set for May 22, 1904 at Steamboat Rock M E church. The program includes devotional services, Sunday School topics, recitations, a basket dinner, song services, and discussions on Sunday School methods, influence on citizenship, pupil duties, and church relations with speakers Rev W E Paul Rev F B Jansen Rev C W Cleveland J D Humphrey Jennie Potgeter Velma Welles Elia B Chassell C B Turner and others.
C A Miller and wife spent Saturday and Sunday at Elders. John Miller of Parkersburg visits cousin QO Miller in Miss Hartman spent the weekend at J W Miller’s home. Mrs Amelia Gearhart and children of Aplington visited W Gearhart. The young daughter of Mr and Mrs Jas Michael, sick with pneumonia, is improving rapidly.
