The farewell reception for Supt and Mrs B J Miles at the Iowa Industrial School drew over 150 invited guests. Officials spoke warmly of their decades of service as the Mileses announced plans to move to Washington before possibly returning to Eldora.
Mr. Moir and Eldora friends praised Mr. Miles for the Town Industrial School for Boys, declaring it peerless among similar institutions in America. He received a diamond shirt pin as a token of esteem, while County Attorney EF A Noble presented Mrs. Miles with fine china from Eldora ladies.

Rev Chas F Mayne a Nevada Methodist minister attending the State Sunday School convention at Town Falls was awakened when a burglar entered the Courtney home at 1 16 am. Warner of the Congregational church. Pastor Stanley spoke briefly and refreshments followed in the church parlors. The event marks progress for the community toward better things. The clerk's office will be open July 4 from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. for old soldiers.
Pleasant Ridge notes show a well attended Whitten Sunday school convention with several families visiting nearby towns. Jennie Whitney and grandniece plan a St Louis visit while Mrs James Reynolds of Marshalltown visits W Barnard. Garrett Smith of Newkirk and B W Ibach consider an overland trip to Marshalltown to hear Mr Bryan.
Be sure to attend quarterly next Sunday. W B Rash attended the State Sunday School convention at Iowa Falls this week. Rev Maloy and Rev Reece will begin a tent meeting here next Tuesday evening. Miss Amy Rubottom returned from a western trip. Basket support at M T H church Wednesday evening was a grand success with four baskets and surprising money. Red Cedar posts last a lifetime. Davis and Moser sell them. Robertson Born to Mr and Mrs Harry Kislin a daughter on June 27. W S Wickham of Steamboat Rock was here last Wednesday. Mr and Mrs S L Wilson returned from Des Moines. Mrs Rose Simpson of Blairstown spent summer with her mother. Mrs Morris death announced. Mr Webster of Radcliffe visited his daughter Mrs Sam Shaner. Christian aid society meets with Mrs Frank Strahorn on July 7. Miss Dora Wickham Myrtle Hathaway and Mrs Estella Carpenter closed spring term of school last Friday. Mesdames Stella Windecker Myrtle Wilson and Madden attended the Sunday School convention at Iowa Falls Thursday.
The Herald will publish only one issue next week. The issue will appear Thursday morning to give the office force a chance to celebrate the Fourth. The newspaper urges readers to enjoy the National holiday.
Gr undy Republican reports a shift on rural route No 3 out of Grundy Center that diverts mail from Grundy Center to Stout and Dike, angering local patrons and business community. Mary Kammary attended the Falls. Ella Montgomery returned home from Eldora after visiting sister A E Cross. Henry Humphrey returns from Town City where his wife underwent surgery. Davis and Moser advertise Wheeler screens in stock.
The community reports painting, paving, and church upkeep at Lawn Hill. A new blacksmith shop is anticipated. Rev H D Smith will preach at Bethel next Sabbath. Children’s Day exercises set for Sunday evening at the Evangelical church. John Taines buys 40 acres in Providence township. Mrs Beecher connection noted. quarterly meeting planned. Rev G W Mullen to preach with multiple services. Community members welcomed.
