Annual Meeting of Hardin County Veterans at Alden
The Hardin County Veteran Association held its 20th annual reunion at Alden on Wednesday August 26 with a basket dinner. Officers were elected and 63 veterans enrolled. Chaplain Stanley spoke on freedom, while Rev E R Robbins gave a Civil War era address and noted eight deaths in the past year. The next meeting will be at Eldora in 1910.

Oregon-Washington Limited to run from Chicago to Pacific Coast
Chicago and North Western Railway announces a new train named the Oregon Washington Limited to begin August 22. It will leave Chicago at 11 30 a m daily, reach Portland the third morning and serve Tacoma and Seattle the same afternoon. The train offers Pullman sleeping cars, free reclining chair cars and a dining car, with through service Chicago to Portland.

Grundy Republican Sold to Experienced Newspaper Man
O. E. Smith sold the Grundy Republican to Frank J. Stillman, an ex government worker in Washington and part owner of the Jefferson Bee. Stillman plans undisclosed. Smith previously ran the Union Star and bought the Republican two years ago from the Herald editor. Mrs. G. W. Sheldon and her Hubbard family member returned home after visiting Mrs. Race west of town.

Eldora to Enforce Waste Paper Ordinance Now
Mayor Tyler and Marshal Scurry will enforce the city ordinance prohibiting throwing waste paper in streets. After repeated appeals failed, officials plan to crowd the police room with offenders each morning. Receptacles for surplus paper will be placed in the park and streets to aid disposal.

Under Ground Wires Planned for Eldora Co
The Eldora Mutual Telephone Co. will place an underground cable from the exchange building to Washington street, then north and south along Washington to Lovell Scholfield Lumber Co. office to the Chas. Albrook corner. Cost about $4,000 for poles conduits cables cement and labor. The project will largely remove visible poles from the business district.

Silver Medal Contests Held Across Towns
The W C G T U medal contests drew strong attendance. Lulu Banker of Hampton won at Steamboat Rock, daughter of Mrs. L. C. Stewart of Eldora. Ed Newell was shifting from high to low gear when the engine failed and the car began to back down the Steve Burke hill. He steered into the bank to avoid the ditch, turned the car sideways, and it rolled over. No injuries were reported, but the top suffered damage.

Reinbeck and Dysart clashed at Dysart on a Wednesday game. A Reinbeck player challenged the Dysart umpire, prompting the umpire to move in as a scuffle nearly broke out.
