Tre Town and County presents items of interest from Hardin County. Locals not otherwise classified share brief notes gathered from streets and various sources for quick reading.
The annual Old Settlers gathering meets August 26 and 27 1805 at the Thomas Walton property near Lawn Hill with a holiday basket dinner. Program includes music addresses by Orlando Mossman S O Blair Rev J S Lavely and J F Hardin plus religious services and memorial exercises led by local ministers and Miss Grace Carter and Mrs Hammer with closing song. Kate M. Boylan is secretary.
Eldora defeated Ackley 20 to 0 on a Thursday game in Ackley. Hirsch pitched well for Eldora, allowing one walk as Ackley managed only three hits. Ferris hit a home run and drove in three runs, while Eldora’s lineup included Crossan, Hersch, Miller, Ferris, Dr Underwood, Jonker, Bridgens, Lynk, and others. The Herald could not confirm Ackley’s full lineup.
The Herald reports a historic Marshalltown District Epworth League Conference with about eighty delegates. Revives and sermons by Rev Shear, Rev Kennedy, Rev Lemon, and Rev Bishop defined a productive session, with praise for spiritual focus, youth work, and the upcoming officers for next year.

Eldora Junction notes O H Clark of Cedar Falls visited A Wentworth at home Thursday. Neighbors crowded the Union carnival Friday and Saturday. Miss Elbiarancisco of Marshalltown stopped by for a visit late in the week. Master John Wentworth returned home Friday after vacation with relatives in the area. Harry Vigars, once sick, has improved and is active again. Mrs R S Miller hosted relatives Tuesday for sister Mrs Almus Adams of Omaha.
A large group of farmers here are stacking grain this year instead of performing shock threshing. Ralph Rogers entertained the company that gathered at the John Van Patter home Sunday with a graphophone recital.
Mrs U G Kuiss plans to return home this week from southern Kansas where she has been visiting for some time. Mrs George Whitney was stung severely by bumble bees in the hayfield and is in serious condition. E A VanPatter expects to leave for South Dakota this week with Hubbard party on a land seeking mission. Mrs Hoyt owns a cow with two pairs of twin calves, oldest pair eleven months old, to be exhibited at the county fair.
Des Moines Iowa reports a week near normal in temperature with copious rainfall across much of the state. Warmth and moisture improved corn pastures and potatoes while all unripened crops benefited. Soil moisture remains adequate for corn should a dry spell follow. Wheat and oats yields and quality are good. Second clover crop heavy. threshing slowed by showers. Fall plowing underway.
