Talk Across Miles Between Cunarder Umbria and Etruria
The Cunarder Umbria, freshly arrived from Liverpool, talked by wireless telegraphy with her sister ship Etruria heading east. Opera tor Franklin on the Umbria caught the Etruria’s call, the exchange lasting three and a half hours. The shortest distance was thirty two miles and the longest about 110 nautical miles. The Umbria sent five messages to the Etruria to be transmitted from Crook Haven to friends in England.
