A large Atlantic steamer ran aground on the coast of England amid calamities. The disaster unfolds with alarming regularity as crews respond to the wreck and assess damage. Rescue and salvage operations begin, with reports noting high tides complicating access.
Aboard the Mohegan 200 passengers and crew were aboard when the steamer went ashore off the Lizard amid a gale. Coast guards reported many drowned and only 31 saved. lifeboats reached shore with mixed results.

The Two hundred and first New York regiment at Camp Meade Middletown Pa complains of starvation like conditions bread missing 24 hours as ovens fault and pay is delayed due to fear of desertion. Officers insist bread is baked by each regiment and mutiny threats rise. In Morriston Ark Alexander Brinkley is hanged for murder with circumstantial evidence in 1897.
