The Presbyterian Church in the United States general assembly voted to adopt the revised Confession of Faith after a long debate. The measure broadens doctrine to include infant salvation while affirming God’s sovereignty and universal grace. the changes will be reported at the next assembly.
The Missouri and Kaw rivers rise above danger levels with 27 and 26 inches above the line. Over 200 houses flooded in North Topeka and surrounding areas as residents evacuate by boat. The Kaw threatens to cut a new channel through the city, with streetcar service suspended and stockyard tracks submerged.
Floods sweep Kansas towns with submerged tracks and bridges cutting North Topeka into an island. Des Moines valley reports vast corn damage and rivers receding. In court Arthur L North, railway mail clerk, initially pleads guilty then denies guilt, claiming conspiracy and awaiting trial. President Roosevelt visits Utah amid Scripps McRae reports.
G A R members prepared for Memorial day services with a 1:30 march assembly in front of the K P hall on Fifth street. Rev S S Martin will deliver the oration at the soldiers monument near the cemetery gate. Thirty new veteran markers were added, and all city cemetery soldiers graves are now marked. Sedalia Military band declined due to Saturday work, and participants include G A R, Women's Relief Corps, Sedalia Rifles, Spanish American war veterans, and local citizens. Public offices observe the day. post office remains open 9 to 11 a m.
Parental opposition drove 19 year olds John Cavanaugh and Mary McAndrews to ingest carbolic acid in a grove near their homes. Cavanaugh died soon after and Mary, who covered his face, died next morning after becoming ill at work.
News reports a family feud in Shelby County where William Chapman Jodie Price and Mrs Hands were all killed after meeting to settle differences. All were armed and exchanged gunfire. The confrontation occurred yesterday.
Still critical in Jackson Kentucky as Colonel Williams reports fears of danger. Militia posts guard all town passes with Gatling and Hotchkiss guns at key sites. Escapee feudists Curtis Jett and Tom White held on murder charges were turned over to the acting sheriff by the militia.
Miss Grace Baker will be hostess for a gathering honoring Aliie McNemar of Columbia and Grace Denton of Warrensburg. About 115 guests are invited for an evening of cards and dancing with a delightful time expected.
