Sedalia Democrats held ward meetings electing delegates to the city convention at the courthouse tomorrow night. Fourth Ward saw a small walk out while overall harmony persisted. committees were chosen and tuition concerns noted as a student abstinence from smoking was urged by Dr. Fisk highlighting cigarette use and academic impact.
First Ward meeting opened by T W East with T F Mitchum absent. W H Powell chosen chairman and E E Johnston secretary by acclamation as the non partisan ticket was endorsed. Second Ward session led by R A Higdon with W S Baker elected chairman and L S Eddins secretary. 25 voted for and 9 against endorsing the non partisan ticket.
The Third ward meeting opened at 7 45 by Committeeman F F Hatton with Judge O E Parsons elected chairman and S M Hodges secretary. W E Millers resolution backing the non partisan ticket was adopted, Col Richard Ritter opposing.
In the Fourth ward H. B. Shain served as chairman and E. J. Evans as secretary. The non-partisan ticket was endorsed. John Burress Rudolph Dean John Hyatt and several others who were displeased with the proceedings walked out.
The chairmen appointed three member committees who named seven delegates. Voters were forced to vote for the seven names or not at all. The proceedings moved quickly and seemed rushed and predetermined.

Dr H J F Fisk principal urged students at the Evanston academy to quit smoking. He advised those who thought they could smoke without consequence to reconsider and warned of a strict policy.

James Redman and his bride nee Cal lie Gower of Fairfield Benton county depart on the fast mail this morning heading to a point fifty miles from Billings Montana.
Warrensburg Star reports Homer Wade night operator at Lamonte will serve a thirty days layoff with W. E. Burns taking his place. Wade is noted as a popular and well behaved employee.
Mr and Mrs H M Thornton, long located at Rose Kansas, have moved back to Sweet Springs where Thornton works as a Missouri Pacific dispatcher. The couple were formerly Sedalia residents and were married here several weeks ago. Mrs Thornton is visiting her parents in the city.
Mary E. Price formerly McNeal files suit for divorce from Charles M. Price. She cites desertion and unknown current whereabouts of the husband. They married August 22, 1900. Attorney Al Shortridge represents the plaintiff.
Warrensburg has raised only 20000 of 40000 needed for the Colorado road right of way. The effort may be abandoned as a wealthy subscriber who gave 1500 to the cause grows disgusted by local apathy and says he may pull out.
The annual Monsees sale at Limestone Valley farm seven miles east of the city drew buyers from five states with spirited bidding. Up to noon 24 hogs and 20 mules sold. hogs averaged about $25 per head, mules about $125. An elegant dinner followed at noon, then nineteen blooded jacks and six fine stallions to be offered later.

This morning Capt Mason received a telegram from John Vaughts of Jefferson City about his 16 year old son who had run away. Officers Mason and Donahue found him at Main and Ohio streets, had followed his trail from Jefferson City to Tipton then Sedalia, where he pawned his overcoat before his father arrived to take him home.
The Rev. E. B. Surface and his bride, recently moved to Ninth street and Prospect avenue, were surprised last night by about fifty guests from the Cumberland Presbyterian church. They arrived at the house with gifts of household utensils and edibles, making for a highly enjoyable evening.

Peter McCaffrey a 33 year old Kansas City saloonkeeper was shot by Flo Freeman at his Fifth Street saloon after she walked in and fired as he moved to leave. Freeman confessed claiming McCaffrey had beaten her. she was drunk. McCaffrey died en route to the surgeon.
Rudolph Marti a native of Switzerland was granted naturalization papers yesterday afternoon in circuit court. Cases include Williams versus Fleck settled with both sides taxed half of costs, Hollis et al. vs Flanders motion for judgment under stipulation, Adams vs Flanders same, Cassidy vs Gentry et al. placed on trial, Rissler vs Igo et al. leave granted to amend petition.
Rachael Crabb a school teacher recovered a judgment against School District No 1 Osage township Bates county for nine months salary at 35 dollars a month. The Kansas City Court of Appeals affirmed the lower court. She had contract but was not allowed to teach for lack of certificate examination which was to be held August 20 1889 but she did not appear. Judge Broaddus wrote the opinion with full concurrence.
