Reports indicate Germany and France edging toward an amicable settlement on Morocco with an international conference in sight. The talks center on sovereignty and commercial rights while Paris and Berlin seek to avert a broader war and preserve the Anglo French entente.
Mrs. Cundiff wife of Editor John Cundiff has died after a long illness and funeral services will likely be held at their residence at 4 o'clock tomorrow afternoon with Rev. Gentry in charge.
J Cundiff 37, born Fredericktown Mo, died at her Sedalia home after years of lung trouble. Wife of J Myers, mother of Earl Rosebud and Jack, with siblings V C George Arnette and Helen Hughes. Funeral held from her residence with Rev. Gentry.
Vanderbuilt University hosts Justice David Brewer and Missouri Governor J. W. Folk as commencement guests. The alumni banquet at Kissam hall featured Folk as principal speaker while Brewer plans to address tomorrow. Folk urged active citizenship and courage to oppose wrong, calling for peaceful soldiers of good government.
Jefferson City report says the Supreme Court denied the motion for a rehearing in the Edgar Bailey case while affirming James Forsha’s 21 year penitentiary sentence for complicity in a murder. Bailey’s death sentence case was continued.
Mrs Cundiff wife of editor John J Cundiff died at her home this morning. The local paper notes her passing and pays tribute to her memory.
The Harrisburg board of pardons will hear Mrs. Kate Edwards on June 21 in a bid to stay her death sentence for murdering her husband. If denied, the hanging will proceed as her final chance for clemency.
Prof Charles T Bell of the High School submitted his resignation to Secretary A W McKenzie effective immediately. He will pursue medical studies.
After months of declining to purchase oil from Kansas, Standard Oil resumes talks and makes an offer to buy. The move signals a shift in supplier relations and potential market impact for local producers.
In Chanute and Cherryvale Kansas on June 20 independents say Standard Oil will buy oil under 30 degrees gravity for 25 cents a barrel after a four month boycott. Producers plan to market independently and anticipate some field stimulation, while H. H. Tucker argues the move will not hurt independents.
In St Petersburg on June 20 the emperor’s speech to the zemstvo delegation urged elected representatives to join state affairs. He declared his sovereign will for reform, predicted unity between the emperor and Russia, and urged a national assembly to end the war and internal troubles. The delegation praised his reception of radicals and carried the address to Moscow for presentation.
John W Hare colored, who admits deserting the U S Army, is under arrest at Warsaw and will likely be taken to Fort Leavenworth Kansas for federal handling. Deputy Constable Fred Ferguson went to Warsaw to transfer Hare to Sedalia. Hare enlisted in Sedalia December 5 1904 by Captain R R Steedman and served in the Ninth Cavalry at Fort Leavenworth. He deserted about a month ago.
Partly cloudy conditions persist with likely showers tonight and on Wednesday. Strong breeze unlikely. temperatures mild with changing skies across the region.
Independent oil men report the Standard Oil boycott is unjust and its new price of 25 cents a barrel shows the old claim of overproduction and oil worthlessness is false. Producers have lost confidence, and independents can buy oil for half the Standard’s offer. In Independence Kansas June 20 and Topeka June 26 reports note heavy oil above ground, pumping limits, and a Kansas branch permission to raise capital from 2.5 to 7.5 million dollars signaling a larger future operation.
Bevier Missouri June 20 At mine No 66 John Plummer shot and killed L Dale assistant foreman. Plummer fled but was tracked to a corn field where he refused to surrender and was probably fatally wounded by officers.
Secretary Taft states Loomis is innocent and the President will decide whether Bowen remains in the diplomatic service. The decision is expected tonight after Taft’s report.
Capt Lloyd Clark brother of the admiral telegraphed Governor Bell of Vermont urging the picture of his brother in the state house be turned to the wall if Mrs Mary Rogers is hanged Friday for murder. The Clark and Bell families have been life long friends.
Chicago officials report the new strike committee asked representatives of the Employers' Association for a conference to secure peace. The move signals a potential end to the city wide labor action.
