Mrs Elizabeth Whittaker 52 of 2106 Randolph street drank carbolic acid yesterday afternoon after marital troubles and despondency over living apart from husband Harry C Whittaker. She previously attempted suicide by acid and had recently faced his arrest for petit larceny. Whittaker acquitted. Body to Sedalia for interment. siblings and Captain Mason plan the arrangements.
William H. Hodgins aged well known citizen died this morning. Funeral services will be at the family residence Tuesday at 3 30 PM. Pallbearers named E. E. Brown J. D. Donnahue A. A. Baker Daniel Grow W. H. Holcroft Julius Kolbohn. Burial in the city cemetery.
William H. Hodgins 68 died at his home 520 West Third Street after a long lung illness. For 33 years he served as division store keeper for the M K and T railway. Born September 1 1837 in London Canada he moved to Sedalia in 1865. He had run a grocery business, later joined Katy. Survived by wife son Archibald of Chicago and Miss Gertrude Hodgins of Chicago. Funeral Friday from residence.
Bert Haldeman local wireless telegraph representative reports from a two hand car in the railroad yards that he is in communication with Car tage St Louis and a special Alton train carrying Dr DeForest and his wireless apparatus. He says all messages are received correctly.
Springfield AL June 19 The supreme court declined action in the Briggs murder case. Jocko Briggs is to be hanged Friday for the killing of Hans Peterson, with the sentence to proceed at the stated time unless the governor intervenes.
The German schooner Suzanne won the race from Dover finishing today with the German vessels Therese and Nava hoe placing second and third. The American boat Atlantic won the race for the auxiliary yachts.
