Charles Anderson night man at Fifer's restaurant in East Sedalia was injured when a reclining chair caused his right middle finger to be severed near the nail. Dr H B Cole dressed the wound as business faded after the rush.
Fireman A J Hoatsom of the Katy hospital bound after an Elmo Texas engine explosion. He suffered extensive burns and bruises with severe pain but is expected to recover after several weeks in care. The engineer escaped with minor injuries.
A recital by pupils of Miss Sallie Major's school of music is set for this evening at the First Congregational church. Rev Melvin Putman will award medals for best progress after the program. The lineup includes Polonaise pieces by Edwin Shultz Bes sie Murry Alice Winter Frank Hughes and Bessie Grant and solos by Hortensia Lange Gertie Yeater and Agnes Dalby with Lillie McClure in Imps and Sprites at Work.
A large congregation filled the First Methodist Church for a carefully prepared service of song and a sermon by Rev Bitler on Blessed Are the Pure In Heart. The double quartet included Misses Harris Clarke Van Antwerp Faulhaber and Messrs Van Antwerp Johnson Scheiner Stallard with Clarence Sharp as organist. The program featured Leybach Sixieme Nocturne, We Praise Thee Oh God, Holy holy holy, Hope thou in God, The God of Abraham Praise, Just as I am, and Onward Christian Soldiers.
Information filed with Prosecuting Attorney W D Steele accuses D E Kennedy, city attorney, of embezzling 532 dollars. Dr F E Standifer of Cheyenne Oklahoma filed the complaint over a bill from F B Fields of Decatur Texas paid to Kennedy but not remitted to W F Hansberger. Kennedy was detained to settle but released on promise to repay.
Ed Allen motorman and Al Ruckman conductor ran across the Thirteenth Street crossing yesterday afternoon without stopping. As a result they are taking a lay off by request pending inquiry into the incident.
R A Higdon attended a divine service yesterday at Providence church near Clifton City and enjoyed a fine basket dinner.

The Marean building site shows carpenters at work. Local notices mention Mr P H Sangree visiting Huntingdon and a widow Mrs Jacob Baker facing financial hardship after her husband’s death and insurance delay. John Montgomery of Sedalia arrives in Moberly to oversee gas and electric operations. Angell's Comedian troupe adds C B Barrington to Mineral Point.
Detroit and Chicago are mentioned as points of interest with Mrs West likely staying east to study for some time before returning home. JD Hail plans to depart for New York this week to stock fall and winter goods, accompanied by Mrs Gosline to study dressmaking styles.
The two owners plan a remodeled store with large front windows and top stock. They will travel for quality goods, promising low prices and ahead designs. Upcoming events include the Sept 4-9 street fair and various local moves.

Webb City reports indicate Missouri Pacific plans a rapid eight mile extension from Joplin to Galena tying into the Galena and Empire mines. A local fears Katy may abandon Wybark station amid worries of robbers and recent wrecks caused by a switched track.
