Sedalia committees urge merchants to build booths along Osage Street and promote a citywide street fair aimed at becoming the largest event in history. The drive seeks private funding while highlighting public enterprise, decorations, and attractions to boost local commerce.
The fair committee schedules poultry displays led by E E Codding and aims to feature cattle horses and jacks with special show elements. The gray mare from La Mon seeks and other fine horses will be shown daily. An office on Osage Street handles subscriptions and donations needed to reach at least 1000 more by Saturday night.
A horse left tied in near 100 degree heat at the Metropolitan barber shop yesterday afternoon prompted a public outcry. A barber’s porter and a nearby worker fed the animal and watered it while a dog watched, before police moved the horse to a stable. The Sentinel questions the owner’s conduct and urges legal action if cruelty laws exist.
Fort Scott hosts a crowded event with Sedalia claiming prizes while protests erupt over band entry. Judges include Fort Scott members, Sedalia blames bias as first prize goes to Pine Camp No. 34 Rich Hill. Sedalia drill team wins good second place. food scarce on return Katy train.

New general merchandise and grocery stores announced. W D Sellick, veteran Missouri Pacific man, to open near Engineer Street. Articles of incorporation filed for L W Bryant Tew Mey Dry Goods Co with capital stock $15,000 among named shareholders.
Christian Bapple, 79, a well known Sedalia resident born in Workburg Germany in 1520, died at 1300 East Fourth Street from chronic diarrhoea. Survived by four sons and three daughters including James and George Bapple, Mrs Chas McVey, John Bapple, Henry Bapple, Mrs Kate Englander, and Mrs Maggie DeBorn. Funeral set for Thursday at East Sedalia Baptist Church with pallbearers Louis Fisher Fred Keil G G Anweiler Myers Sullivan and George Labaugh.
Mrs Breeze traveled from Humansville to Sedalia for a course of treatment under Prof S W Axtell known as the Science of Vital Magnetism. She was greatly benefited by the therapy. The Esisenmayer ball team led by captain Harry Cheek planned a game in Warrensburg to draw a large crowd from a Woodmen of the World event, with massive turnouts and traffic impacts noted.
W D Sellick formerly with the Missouri Pacific has leased a room in Crandall row East Third street and will stock groceries and general merchandise. He will move his stock from St Louis and be ready for friends by about August 15.
Charley Carroll arranges to establish a groceries and provisions stock at the old Lafayette Market corner of Lafayette and Third streets. He is described as an excellent businessman, well known and popular, with the Sentinel predicting success in this venture.
A Sedalia report describes Chas Hillen swindled for $3 by a woman at Sallie Todd's resort. Officers Leftwich and West Witcher pursued recovery, with Hillen offering half the money, and later payments of 1.50 total. Detective Leftwich traveled to Fort Scott to locate Hillen. motives for the trip remain disputed. Hawkshaws reportedly angry at the unfolding affair.
The ladies who organized and managed the trolley party last evening received compliments from participants and it was a highly enjoyable event. Management praised the perfect operation of the cars with every connection on time during the 15 mile ride and no unpleasant incidents. Superintendent Hamner received personal thanks for courtesies extended.
Announcement of the approaching marriage between Sadie Butcher of 305 East Third Street and Albert Winslow of Albany Missouri set for August. Miss Butcher a former Sentinel employee and esteemed lady. The couple will wed quietly and visit Fordland Missouri with her mother before living in Albany after September Sth. Pallbearers at Josephine Mehner's funeral were Frank Lorsbach Michael Seethaler Joseph Aschwander Leopold Friemel and Ferdinand Bahner.
