Rumor and denials swirl around Lyman Littlefield Jr and Della Crew amid reports of a Kansas City wedding. Miss Crew and Littlefield, heirs and locals, dispute or confirm the marriage while creditors court a court-ordered sale of Sedalia street railway properties from receiverships.
The funeral of Samuel H. Beiler was held Sunday afternoon at 3 o clock at the First Baptist church with Rev J B Fuller officiating. The church was filled and floral offerings numbered in the hundreds as mourners attended from Sedalia and nearby towns.
Debate in the Missouri house centers on raising the appellate court pecuniary limit to ease docket backlogs. Judge Bothwell of Pettis objects to Hackney’s figures, proposing a $4,000 limit. the measure was laid over with his amendment pending next Monday. The issue aims to shift more cases to the court of appeals and speed Supreme Court work.
Thomas J. Akins led anti Kerens forces and spent four days in Washington trying to see the president. The White House was often unavailable while Judge W. S. Shirk stayed in the capital to monitor Kerens allies. Rumor says Akins suspected Shirk sided with Missouri’s Kerens-Warner group to influence the outcome.
In Jefferson City on January 27 a judgment was signed authorizing the Sedalia street railway sale under foreclosure by first mortgage holder Kansas Loan and Trust company for 218,363 dollars and second mortgage holder Trust Company of America of New York for 53,809 dollars.
Edward D. Webb, Hopkins merchant, left town a year ago after declaring he was sick of the town. He forfeited a large sum if he returned. Yesterday he came back and said Hopkins isn’t bad after all and plans to resume business.
The funeral for Mrs. George Ragar was conducted Sunday afternoon at Hickory Point Church in Elk Fork Township. She died leaving a husband and eleven children, a sorrow shared by family and community.
Arthur Trader treasurer of the Royal Arcanum handed Mrs. Henrietta Glass widow of James Glass a $3000 check the amount of life insurance carried by her husband in the order.
Col. O A Crandall presented an illuminated cross to Calvary Episcopal Church. The cross hangs above the chancel and features incandescent lights on a black background, producing a singularly beautiful appearance when lit.
W O Bowen of Parsons Kansas and representative of John Church Co Music House visited Sedalia to investigate opening a local branch. He will return soon to announce the firm’s decision and plans for the Sedalia field.
The Central Shorthorn Breeders association plans its annual session in Kansas City January 29 and 20 at the Midland hotel. Key business is electing officers for the coming year. Charles E. Leonard of Bell Air, Mo., current president, is likely to be reelected. The group formed about three years ago to boost western interest in shorthorn breeding alongside MO, KS farmers and leaders like N. H. Gentry, G. W. Glick & Son, George Bellows, and W. P. Brush.
In Missouri appointments have been made at Akinsville Morgan County by G W Mattox at La Tour Johnson County and Joseph Mc C Short.
